This entry is part 21 of 28 in the series Devotionals

Luke 18:2 says, “There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect man.” This judge was destitute of the fear of God and neither did he respect any man.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Fools are persons who have no true wisdom, who follow their own ways, without regard to reason, or reverence for God. There is no true fear of God in the heart of an unconverted man. If an unsaved person does not fear God, neither will he respect any other man or woman.

Romans 12:10 says, “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.” We are supposed to try to exceed one another in honoring and respecting each other! As believers, not only should we respect one another in the family of God, but we are to respect those who do not believe, as well.

To disrespect any person is a bad thing. When we disrespect others, we show that we have no fear of God, and little regard to men. When we choose to disrespect someone, we’re living in a fearless manner, openly declaring our sin and laughing at any future judgment concerning our actions.

God’s word does not make sense to a person who IS NOT saved. 1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “… the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” The gospel ever was, and ever will be, foolishness to all in the road to destruction.

1 Peter 2:17 says, “Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king.” A Christian conversion must be HONEST if we are truly born again. We must endeavor in all relations, to behave in a proper way.

In Luke 18:6, Jesus called this judge “unjust.” That means he was unrighteous – not born again. Don’t be like the unjust judge who had no concern about his reputation, his character, and felt like he had nothing to lose. If you are born again, you have a lot to lose. Walk in respect with every person who crosses your path.
