…But I want the Gospel that sinks deep in my heart. HYPE JUST WON’T DO IT!

I was dead in my trespasses and sin. I was blinded by the god of this world. Hype couldn’t grow my faith and inspire me to walk holy. Hype thrilled me and caused me to play. I loved to play. We all do. But I would never truly pray.

Jesus Christ is our Example and He was not into hype. His message was never entertaining and thrilling. His message always challenged people to leave their comfort zone and follow God’s will for their life. God’s Word cuts like a doubled edged sword (Heb. 4:12). His Word is not a “rah, rah, rah” message. You will have favorable or unfavorable circumstances depending on where you are standing in your relationship with God.

Entertainers usually measure their success based on numbers. Jesus Christ measures our success through obedience to His Word. As believers, we are in a spiritual warfare every day of our lives. Christ knew that hype would lack substance for our everyday living. The Apostle Paul said, “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2).

The lights, the glitter, the dazzle, the loud noise, all of the hype, just couldn’t do it for me. At the end of the day, I realized that I had to take hold of the Message for myself. I knew that I would never tell the good news Gospel of Jesus Christ unless I believed it deep down in my own heart.

Yes, I know that I’m a bit old fashioned. I agree that it’s easier to do “hype” in the church. It’s attractive, it’s entertaining, and the crowd will always follow a performance. But I am fully persuaded that the Good News Gospel of Jesus Christ, is what saves! I’ve gotten older now, but the one definite thing that I have made it my business to do is to know Jesus Christ (His person) and Him crucified (His office). I have no doubt in my heart that the Gospel of Christ is what saves!
