A believer has to want to love Jesus Christ! When the voice of the “old man” whispers in our ear, that “sin nature” who wants to please “self” and not obey the Word of God, we have to press in with all we’ve got to resist the devil.

Ephesians 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Saints, wake up! We are fighting against real forces that come from the powers of darkness.

The old man is that corrupt nature in man, with an un-regenerated spirit. The old man CANNOT understand the things of God nor can he receive them. The old man has been crucified with Christ (Rom. 6:6), but he continually struggles within us to come alive.

The Word of God tells us: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). To resist means to withstand, strive against, or oppose in some manner. The Bible NEVER tells us to rebuke the devil. It tells us to resist him. Resisting the devil must be accompanied by SUBMITTING to God. If we are disobedient to God’s Word or if we are an un-submissive believer, we WILL NOT see victory.

John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” The time is now for each of us to take serious consideration of our lives. Likewise, it is time for us to make the necessary adjustments if there are things we need to change in our lives, so that we may bring glory to God.

God is not playing games with us and He does not want wishy-washy Christians. Putting on the new man requires a change of heart. Every believer has been left on this earth, at this time, for a purpose – to bring glory to Christ. God understands that this is a personal activity for every believer, but make no mistake about it, He wants us to understand it, too.
