Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ is the most important decision that a person could ever make. The words we share with others, in how we came to the decision of “following Christ”, become our Christian testimony, to the glory of God. Revelation 12:11 says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” It is only the Blood of the Lamb that causes a believer to overcome Satan. When we give our testimony to others, to show that the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ is mighty in our lives and was able to pull down Satan’s stronghold over our life, that becomes our testimony!
Some Christians love to talk. They will talk about this and that and they will give God glory through it all. God does want us to acknowledge Him in all of our ways, (Prov. 3:6), but a Christian testimony relates to “how we became a Christian.” In the testimony, we often share events that were talking place in our life (death of a loved one, divorce, health deteriorating, etc.), to show how the Spirit of God was moving and touching our heart but the substance of what we are saying, is “how we became a Christian.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT are two Scriptures that I often meditate on: “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” Every morning, God gives us a brand new set of mercy! Every day God blesses us with strength, to give Him glory and praise and to testify to His goodness. A Christian testimony, however, refers to the story of how we became a Christian. If we are a Christian, we should have a testimony.
How did God work in your life and lead you to salvation in Christ? Have you given it any thought? This is a good time to think about it. Jesus Christ will be coming back soon! Let’s make sure we have something to say.
